An old windmill still pumps water the same as it did decades ago on the plains of Southeastern Montana, as the sun sets on a stormy summer day. These old windmills are often still in use, pumping water from the ground for livestock, even though they're 100 years old. These simple structures are a genius answer to the need for water on the plains of rural America. These old windmills, turning in the winds of the plains, are icons of the American West.

About the Photographer:
Meet Annie, the full-time photographer who travels the world capturing stunning wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and charming rural scenes. Growing up on her family’s ranch in Montana, she now calls Billings, Montana, home. Her work has graced television shows, books, and magazines like Better Homes & Gardens. She’s collaborated with renowned brands like Crate & Barrel, Target, and has even worked on several large-scale projects across the United States. While she loves exploring new places, her heart truly finds its peace in wide-open spaces and nature.
