"Sod Roof Cabin" - Rustic cabin and Natural Western Landscape Photography

TITLE: "Sod Roof Cabin"

I love to photograph abandoned farmhouses, in an effort to capture the quiet way they stand in defiance of time. Instead of a farmhouse, I found this little handmade sod roof cabin while exploring one Fall day. These ingenious cabins have "live" roofs that are made of dirt and natural growing grass, which keeps the water and snow from trickling into the home. It is so far way from the insanity of modern life, and that is what I truly love about it. The architecture of this cabin is simple and primitive, but has lasted longer than many new homes would when left to the elements without any maintenance or care. I love the stillness that surrounds this little home.

About the Photographer:

Annie travels for her photography full-time, photographing wildlife, landscapes, and rural scenes. She grew up on her family's ranch in Montana, and currently works out of her studio in Billings, Montana. Her work has been featured in television shows, books, and in magazines such as Better Homes & Gardens. She has worked with Crate & Barrel, Target, and several large-scale projects across the United States. While she loves to travel, her true love is being in wide open spaces or out in nature.
